There is so many things I would like to learn. For starts I would like to learn German, dance, or even cooking healthy. As of right now, the most important one of these would be learning how to cook healthy. This is why I am leaning towards it for the independent learning project. Like most college students, I do not have very much money. This typically means that I eat fast, unhealthy, and processed foods. I have always thought about attempting to eating healthy but never had time. Between homework, school, and work it was always eating something that was quick. This can be changed by spending four hours a week focusing on eating healthy.

Growing up we always tried to eat healthy. It did not always work especially since I come from a big family and most of my sisters are picky eaters. This meant recipes were adjusted to almost everyone’s liking. In most cases, this lead to mostly eating meat and a few selected vegetables. My mother tried her best, even trying to hide the unwanted vegetables. It did not work, we were able to pick them out anyway.

Eating healthy comes with many perks. One benefit will be a well balanced diet which can lead to weight loss, regulate blood pressure, and even improve digestive health. Second advantage is feeling like a better person. Eating good foods makes your body feel good. Another bonus is the boost of energy. The increase in energy is great, since there is so much to do in one day. There are even more rewards and reasons out there for eating healthy.

As future educators we want our students to eat healthy and be happy. If we are going to tell our students about eating right, then why not do it for ourselves. If we are going to talk the talk then we should walk the walk. It is important for teachers to be happy and healthy, just like our students.  There are so many different reasons why eating healthy is important. It is time we accepted this and started eating our fruits and vegetables.

  1. I think that this is a great thing to focus on! Over the last year and a half, I have drastically altered the way I eat. Setting aside the necessary time to meal plan, meal prep, grocery shop, ect is huge to being successful! Now that you have that time, I have no doubt you will be successful. Good luck!

    • Hopefully everything will go according to plan! It seems like something is always coming up and making them change. By the end I hope this is something I can continue into the next semester.

  2. I think eating healthy foods is one of the most important factors to a healthy life! We always tried to eat healthy when I lived at home with my parents but after my husband and I moved to our apartment, it became harder to afford healthy food. We have been trying to get back into the swing of eating healthier foods, and I hope that you have wonderful luck with this adventure!

  3. This is a great project. It really sucks that in this day and age it really is easier and cheaper to eat food that isn’t good for you. I think more people would eat healthier if fresh food and veggies were more affordable. Good luck on your endeavor!
